The 5:2 diet is a specific approach to weight loss, where you eat as usual five days a week and fast the last two days. When you fast, you can intake 500 calories a day if you are a woman and 600 calories a day if you are a man.
A lot of people chose this diet because it is flexible and adjustable according to your daily routines. The diet does not dictate any rules about what to eat and when, however make sure to stay in your calorie range during the two days when you fast. The other five days, you can stick to your normal diet.
On the five regular days you can eat your normal diet. Women should stay around 1600 calories and men around 1800 calories. It is better to consume variations of high fiber and whole wheat products such as pasta, rice and bread in addition to fruits and vegetables, in order to feel fullness and stay healthy. It is suggested to consume 600 grams of vegetables and fruits a day, primarily vegetables. Keep your calorie intake to a minimum on the two days where you fast and make sure to drink a reasonable amount of water, which will also make you feel full. Besides water you can also drink black coffee and tea which does not contain any calories.
